In this practice we perform a gentle inversion posture known as Legs Up the Wall.

In just a couple of weeks my son will be one year old! The days of long daily yoga practices have faded away during this season of my life. Although I'm still practicing hatha yoga everyday it is now in much shorter chunks of time spread throughout the day. Due to this I'm not getting the same level of mental calmness that my physical practice used to bring me. I've found that meditation has become an even more important part of my practice than ever before. For me practicing helps me to feel more grounded, connected with myself, calm and adaptable to whatever is arising in the present moment.
Each day I practice Walking Meditation while I'm holding my son. Often I find that while getting him to sleep for a nap or bedtime is an ideal scenario for practice. The slow movements and calm focus that I have while practicing it often help him fall asleep with little effort. This form of meditation is such a gift. It has helped me survive this first year of parenting with more grace and ease! I hope it benefits you just as much.
Set aside 10-15 minutes of quiet time to practice. Turn your phone off or on silent. Choose
a path to walk that is free of clutter or debris. You can practice indoors or outdoors.
The form of Walking Meditation I've shared with you above is inspired by what I learned while reading Mindful Birthing by Nancy Bardacke. It is just one form of walking meditation! In my experience this form encourages a deep level of mental focus and clarity due to the constant awareness it cultivates.
